An audience profile representing 436 active social media users from the United States, aged 18-55, was defined. Specifically, of all respondents who are "Very aware" of shadow banning, a staggering 92.36% use social media "Multiple times a day." In contrast, users who log on less frequently are far more likely to be oblivious to the practice. Among those "Not aware at all," the largest segment (63.31%) are users who log on only "Once a day."

This insight suggests that awareness of complex moderation issues is concentrated within the most engaged user base, who are most likely to encounter or hear about such practices.

A recurring theme among politically active users was the belief that their content was deliberately hidden, especially when it was critical of authority, exposed corruption, or organized real-world action. This experience led to feelings of censorship and disempowerment.

    I spent hours compiling public records for a thread about a local council member's questionable land deals. It got a handful of likes. My followers told me it never even showed up in their feeds. It feels like the platform is actively protecting powerful people by making it impossible for grassroots accountability to gain any traction.

  • Theme 2: Chilling Effect on Niche, "Sensitive," or Critical Discourse. Users discussing topics deemed sensitive (like mental health) or posting critical analysis (of financial projects, business models, or historical narratives) reported sudden drops in engagement.
